OET (OET-LV)And_also I I_have_made DOM_you_all despised and_abased to/from_all/each/any/every the_people because_of_matter_of of_that not_you_all [are]_keeping DOM ways_my and_ones_showing_partiality faces in/on/at/with_instruction.

OET (OET-RV)So that’s why I’ve caused you all to be despised by all the people and humiliated—because you all haven’t followed me, but rather you’ve been biased in matters of the law.”

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

לְכָל־הָעָ֑ם

to/from=all/each/any/every the,people

This spatial idea stands for the people’s awareness of the priests’ evil behavior.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

אֵֽינְכֶם֙ שֹׁמְרִ֣ים אֶת־דְּרָכַ֔י

not,you_all keeping DOM ways,my

Here ways stands for “desires” and “behavior.” These ways are spoken of as if they were things that could be kept by people. Alternate translation: “you have not followed my desires in how you should live”

וְנֹשְׂאִ֥ים פָּנִ֖ים בַּתּוֹרָֽה

and,ones_showing_partiality faces in/on/at/with,instruction

Alternate translation: “but have set easy standards of behavior for people you like and difficult standards of behavior for people you do not like”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

וְנֹשְׂאִ֥ים פָּנִ֖ים

and,ones_showing_partiality faces

Here the habit of favoring some people more than others is spoken of as if it were a thing that could be shown to others. Alternate translation: “but have made people aware that you favor some people more than others”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

2:9 shown favoritism (literally lifted up the face): The expression is also found in 1:8 (“see how pleased he is”). The priests should have administered the law with kindness and fairness, but they had not done so. It was ridiculous for the priests to suppose that God would show them favor when they had shown partiality in discharging the prescribed duties of their office.
