OET (OET-LV) Therefore I_will_be_going always to_be_reminding you_all concerning these things, although having_perceived them and having_been_strengthened in the being_present truth.
OET (OET-RV) Therefore I intend to always remind you about these things, even though you know them and are already established in the truth that you know.
Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result
διὸ
therefore
Peter uses Therefore to introduce the purpose of his letter. In order to encourage his readers to do everything he has said in [1:5–10](../01/05.md), and especially because of the promise in [1:11](../01/11.md), he wants to keep reminding them about these things. Use a natural form in your language to show that this introduces a result or purpose for saying what came before. Alternate translation: [Because these things are very important]
Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns
τούτων
these_‹things›
Here, these things refers back to what Peter has stated in the previous verses, specifically to faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love, which Peter mentioned in [1:5–7](../01/05.md).
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
ἐστηριγμένους ἐν
˓having_been˒_strengthened in
If your language does not use this passive form, you can express this with an active form. Alternate translation: [you learned well]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
ἐστηριγμένους ἐν τῇ παρούσῃ ἀληθείᾳ
˓having_been˒_strengthened in the being_present truth
Here, established is used to refer to one being firmly committed to something. Alternate translation: [you strongly believe the truth that you now have]
ἐν τῇ παρούσῃ ἀληθείᾳ
in the being_present truth
Here, in has the meaning of “in reference to” or “with regard to.” Alternate translation: [in reference to the present truth]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
ἐν τῇ παρούσῃ ἀληθείᾳ
in the being_present truth
Here, present is used as if truth were an object that could be there with Peter’s audience. Here it does not refer to present time. Alternate translation: [in the truth that you have] or [in the truth that is with you]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
ἐν τῇ παρούσῃ ἀληθείᾳ
in the being_present truth
If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the idea behind the abstract noun truth with an adjective, such as “true.” Alternate translation: [in these true teachings]
1:12-15 Peter was writing at the end of his life, and 2 Peter is similar to works that belong to a popular Jewish genre called the testament, in which an old and respected leader gives final instructions to his children or others on his deathbed (cp. Deut 31–33; Josh 24). This genre is especially well known from a Jewish work called The Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
