OET (OET-LV) and we heard this the voice from heaven, having_been_brought with him, being on the holy mountain.
OET (OET-RV) Indeed we heard this voice from heaven ourselves as we had been taken with him to the holy mountain.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / exclusive
ταύτην τὴν φωνὴν ἡμεῖς ἠκούσαμεν ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐνεχθεῖσαν
this ¬the voice we heard from heaven /having_been/_brought
With the words we ourselves, Peter is referring to himself and to the disciples James and John, who also heard the voice of God. Alternate translation: “we, James, John, and I, heard this voice that came from heaven”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐνεχθεῖσαν
from heaven /having_been/_brought
If your language does not use this passive form, you can express this with an active form. Alternate translation: “having come from heaven” or “that came from heaven”
σὺν αὐτῷ, ὄντες
with him being
This is a temporal phrase that can begin with “when.” Alternate translation: “when we were with him”
Note 3 topic: writing-pronouns
σὺν αὐτῷ
with him
Here, him refers to Jesus, not God the Father. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state this reference explicitly. Alternate translation: “being with Jesus”
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
τῷ ἁγίῳ ὄρει
the holy mountain
The mountain Peter refers to is the mountain on which Jesus was powerfully transformed in the event known as the “transfiguration.” If it would be helpful to your readers, you could express this information explicitly. Alternate translation: “on the holy mountain on which Jesus was powerfully transformed”
1:16-21 Peter’s denunciation of the false teachers (ch 2) is framed by this teaching about the certainty of Jesus’ return (see also 3:1-13). The false teachers were probably denying the reality of Christ’s return and judgment. Peter’s eyewitness experience (1:16-18) and the intrinsic reliability of scriptural prophecy (1:19-21) make Christ’s return a certainty.
OET (OET-LV) and we heard this the voice from heaven, having_been_brought with him, being on the holy mountain.
OET (OET-RV) Indeed we heard this voice from heaven ourselves as we had been taken with him to the holy mountain.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
