ULTNow come together in battle ranks,
 ⇔ daughter of soldiers!
⇔ A siege has been set up against us!
⇔ With a rod they strike the judge of Israel
 ⇔ on the cheek.[fn]

Instead of come together in battle ranks, some interpreters translate cut yourselves, referring to the pagan practice of cutting oneself while praying to idols. Also, some modern versions follow an ancient version that reads build up your fortifications.

USTYou people of Jerusalem, gather your troops together.
⇔ Even though you have a wall around your city to protect it,
⇔ enemy soldiers are surrounding the city.
⇔ Soon they will strike your leader on his face with a rod.

BSB  ⇔ Now, O daughter of troops,
 ⇔ mobilize your troops;
⇔ for a siege is laid against us!
⇔ With a rod they will strike the cheek
⇔ of the judge of Israel.

OEB‘Now cut yourself in bitter grief,
 ⇔ daughter besieged by soldiers.
⇔ They have set a wall around you.
⇔ They strike the ruler of Israel,
⇔ in the face with a rod.

WEBBENow you shall gather yourself in troops,
 ⇔ daughter of troops.
⇔ He has laid siege against us.
⇔ They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.

WMBB (Same as above)

NETBut now slash yourself, daughter surrounded by soldiers!
 ⇔ We are besieged!
⇔ With a scepter they strike Israel’s ruler
⇔ on the side of his face.

LSVNow gather yourself together, O daughter of troops,
He has laid a siege against us,
They strike [the] judge of Israel on the cheek with a rod.

FBVGather your troops together, Jerusalem![fn] An enemy is besieging us. They will strike Israel's leader on the cheek with a rod.

5:1 “Jerusalem”: literally, “daughter of troops.”

T4T“But now, you people of Jerusalem, gather your troops together,
⇔ because even though you have a wall around your city to protect it,
⇔ enemy soldiers are surrounding the city.
⇔ And soon they will strike your leader on his face, with a rod.”

This irony describes the king as having lost so much of his power and authority that he is really only a judge.
