OET (OET-LV) And we_are_asking you_all, brothers, concerning the coming of_the master of_us, Yaʸsous chosen_one/messiah, and of_us gathering_together to him,
OET (OET-RV) Now concerning the return of our master Yeshua Messiah and our being gathered together with him, we are asking you all, brothers and sisters,
Some Christians in Thessalonica thought that Paul had said that the Lord Jesus Christ had already returned. But he had not said this. So, in this section, Paul reminded them about what he had taught them when he was with them: that before the Lord Jesus returned, a leader whom Paul called “the man of lawlessness” would appear. This person would be against every religion and would oppose God’s laws. But he would deceive only those who had rejected God’s message about Christ. On the day when Christ returns, he will destroy that person and his power.
Paul did not list everything in this section (2:1–12) in the order in which the events will happen. Rather, in 2:1–4 he wrote a general sequence of events. Then in 2:5 he introduced what he had previously taught about these events. Then in 2:6–12 he taught specifically about the rebellion, about the wicked person (“man of lawlessness”) who would oppose God’s laws, and about how Jesus Christ would return to destroy him.
Some of the Christians at Thessalonica were upset because they thought that Paul had said that the Lord Jesus had already returned. Here Paul sought to correct this misunderstanding. He reminded them that before the Lord Jesus returns, many people will reject God. Then a wicked leader called “the man of lawlessness” will appear.
Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
¶ Now we(excl) want to write about the time when our(incl) Lord Jesus Christ will come again
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: This refers to the Lord Jesus Christ’s return, not his birth in Bethlehem.
and our being gathered together to Him,
and God will gather us(incl) together to meet him/Jesus.
our being gathered together to Him: Literally, “our gathering to him.” Many English versions translate the Greek noun episunagōgē, “gathering, assembly,” using a passive form, as the BSB has done. Paul did not make clear who will gather the believers, but as the note on 1 Thessalonians 4:17a says, Paul probably meant that God would gather the believers together, both those who were still alive and those who had already died. Then he would bring them to meet the Lord Jesus in the air as he returned. So if you need to use an active verb, you should use God as the subject.
to Him: That is, “to meet him [Jesus].”
we ask you, brothers,
About this, brothers, we(excl) urge you
we ask you: In the Greek text, this part of the verse actually occurs at the beginning of 2:1. The BSB and most other English versions have placed this expression at the end of the verse to make it clear that this phrase is directly connected with 2:2, that is, that 2:2 contains what Paul was asking the Thessalonians.
brothers: See the note on 1 Thessalonians 1:4. If such an expression only occurs in your language at the beginning of a sentence, you may need to place this at the beginning of the verse.
Note 1 topic: headings
In verses 1–12, Paul exhorts believers not to be deceived about the day Jesus will come back and warns them about the coming man of lawlessness. A heading for this section might be, “The Man of Lawlessness” or “The Deception before Jesus Returns.”

The word translated Now marks a change in topic. You can use a natural way in your language to show that this is a new section with a different topic than the previous section.

ὑπὲρ τῆς παρουσίας τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν, Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, καὶ ἡμῶν ἐπισυναγωγῆς ἐπ’ αὐτόν

The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering to him are two actions that happen at the same time. You can make this clear in your translation with an appropriate connecting word or phrase. Alternate translation: [regarding the time of our Lord Jesus coming when we will be gathered together unto him]

If it is more natural in your language, you could use active verbs for the events of coming and gathering. Alternate translation: [about the time when our Lord Jesus will come and gather us to himself]

brothers
Here, brothers means fellow Christians, including both men and women. Alternate translation: [brothers and sisters]
2:1 At the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1:7-10; 1 Thes 2:19; 3:13; 4:15–5:2; 5:23), all of his people will be gathered to meet him. This will occur at the resurrection and rapture of the church (1 Thes 4:13-18).

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
