BrTrThen I praised mirth, because there is no good for a man under the sun, but to eat, and drink, and be merry: and this shall attend him in his labour all the days of his life, which God has given him under the sun.

ULTAnd I praised, I, joy, that there is nothing good for humanity under the sun except to eat and to drink and to rejoice, and it will accompany him in his toil during the days of his life that God has given to him under the sun.

USTSo I decided that I would recommend that people be happy while they are alive, because the best thing that people can do here on this earth is to eat and drink and be happy. Enjoying those things will help people while they do their work, all the days that God has given to them to remain alive here on the earth.

BSBSo I commended the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be merry. For this [joy] will accompany him in his labor during the days of his life that God gives him under the sun.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

8:15 The Teacher’s conclusion is familiar (2:24-25; 3:12-13, 22; 5:18-20; 6:9). In spite of tragedies and hard labor, we can enjoy life and be happy.
• In Hebrew, the word translated having fun means finding enjoyment in our daily activities, not pursuing pleasure or entertainment for its own sake.
