As in [9:2](../09/02.md), lifted is an idiom that means “married.” Alternate translation: [All of these men had married foreign women]

The implication is that if a foreign wife had borne children, the Israelite husband would send both the wife and her children away, as [10:3](../10/03.md) describes.
