As in [1:2](../01/02.md), brother here most likely indicates that Hanani was Nehemiah’s biological brother. Alternate translation: [my brother Hanani]

אֶת־חֲנָ֣נִי
DOM Ḩₐnānī
This is the name of a man. See how you translated it in [1:2](../01/02.md)

He means Hananiah. “He was as a faithful man” is a way of saying “he was such as only a faithful man would be.” Alternate translation: [I appointed Hananiah because he was trustworthy]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
וְיָרֵ֥א אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים מֵרַבִּֽים

Here, fear does not mean to be afraid of God, but to show God reverence and respect. Alternate translation: [because he showed God more reverence and respect than most people do]
7:2 a faithful man who feared God: Hanani displayed two leadership characteristics favored by Nehemiah and God (see also 5:9, 15; Dan 6:4; Luke 16:10-12; 1 Pet 5:12).
OET (OET-LV) And_put_incharge DOM Ḩₐnānī my_brother/kindred and_DOM Ḩₐnanyāh the_commander_of the_citadel over Yərūshālam/(Jerusalem) if/because he as_man_of faithfulness and_feared DOM the_ʼElohīm more_than_many.
OET (OET-RV) I put my brother Hanani and the fortress commander Hananyah in charge over Yerushalem. (Hananyah was a faithful man and respected God more than many others do.)
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
