OET (OET-LV) And_he_returned the_messenger who_was_speaking with_me and_he_roused_me like_a_person who he_is_roused from_sleep_of_his.
OET (OET-RV) Then the messenger who was talking with me turned and woke me as if waking someone from their sleep.
Note 1 topic: writing-newevent
וַיָּ֕שָׁב הַמַּלְאָ֖ךְ הַדֹּבֵ֣ר בִּ֑י וַיְעִירֵ֕נִי
and,he_returned the,angel [who,was]_speaking with,me and,he,roused_me
Zechariah is using the word translated as returned to introduce a new event in the story. Use a word, phrase, or other method in your language that is natural for introducing a new event.
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / simile
כְּאִ֖ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־יֵע֥וֹר מִשְּׁנָתֽוֹ
like,a_person which/who wakened from,sleep_of,his
The point of this comparison is that just as a man who is roused from his sleep is awakened suddenly, so the angel is rousing Zechariah to pay attention. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make this point explicitly. Alternate translation: [as when a man is suddenly awakened from sleep]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
אֲשֶׁר־יֵע֥וֹר מִשְּׁנָתֽוֹ
which/who wakened from,sleep_of,his
The expression is roused from his sleep is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [who wakes from sleep]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
