Paul continues the metaphor from the previous verse of a farmer sowing seeds and harvesting crops. The word sowing refers to doing deeds, which will have consequences. Here, sowing to his own flesh refers to a person doing sinful actions in order to satisfy his sinful nature, and sowing to the Spirit refers to a person doing good actions in order to please the Holy Spirit.
