BrTrFrom the days of our fathers we have been in a great trespass until this day: and because of our iniquities we, and our kings, and our children, have been delivered into the hand of the kings of the Gentiles by the sword, and by captivity, and by spoil, and with shame of our face, as at this day.

ULTFrom the days of our fathers until this day we are in great guilt. And in our iniquities, we ourselves, our kings, and our priests have been given into the hand of the kings of the lands by sword, by captivity, and by plunder, and by shame of face, as this day.

USTSince the time of our ancestors until now, we, the Jewish people, have been very guilty of sinning against you. That is the reason why you, God, allowed the armies of the kings of other lands to do whatever they wanted to do with our people and with our kings and our priests. They killed many of them, they captured many of them, they robbed many of them, and they caused them all to be disgraced, just as we are today.

BSBFrom the days of our fathers to this day, our guilt has been great. Because of our iniquities, we and our kings and priests have been delivered into the hands of the kings of the earth and put to the sword and captivity, to pillage and humiliation, as we are this day.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

9:7 Ezra forthrightly summarizes Israel’s past history. The people and their leaders had sinned and were justly punished.
• just as we are today: The effects of Israel’s punishment were still evident in Jerusalem at this time.
