Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
בְּנֵ֣י הָאָדָ֔ם
sons_of the=humankind
Solomon is using the sons of humanity as a common expression of the culture to mean “human beings.” If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [people]
Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns
הֵ֖מָּה לָהֶֽם
they(emph) to/for=them
The pronoun they themselves refers to the sons of humanity. Solomon uses the independent pronoun for emphasis. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [the sons of humanity themselves]
Note 3 topic: grammar-connect-logic-goal
אָמַ֤רְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ בְּלִבִּ֔י & דִּבְרַת֙ בְּנֵ֣י הָאָדָ֔ם לְבָרָ֖ם הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְלִרְא֕וֹת שְׁהֶם־בְּהֵמָ֥ה
said I in,heart_of,my & regard_of sons_of the=humankind to,test,them the=ʼElohīm and,to,see (cmp),they cattle/livestock
Here, that they might see marks that they are animals, they themselves as the goal or purpose of God is to test them. Use a connector in your language that makes it clear that this is the purpose.
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / quotations
אָמַ֤רְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ בְּלִבִּ֔י עַל דִּבְרַת֙ בְּנֵ֣י הָאָדָ֔ם לְבָרָ֖ם הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְלִרְא֕וֹת שְׁהֶם־בְּהֵמָ֥ה הֵ֖מָּה לָהֶֽם
(Some words not found in UHB: said I in,heart_of,my on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in regard_of sons_of the=humankind to,test,them the=ʼElohīm and,to,see (cmp),they cattle/livestock they(emph) to/for=them )
If it would be more natural in your language, you could express this as an indirect quotation. Alternate translation: [That God tests the sons of humanity to show that they themselves are animals]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
שְׁהֶם־בְּהֵמָ֥ה הֵ֖מָּה לָהֶֽם
(cmp),they cattle/livestock they(emph) to/for=them
Here Solomon is speaking as if human beings were animals. He means that in terms of mortality, humans are no different from animals. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [they themselves are no different from animals]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
אָמַ֤רְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ בְּלִבִּ֔י
said I in,heart_of,my
See how you translated the similar expression in [3:17](../03/17.md).
OET (OET-LV) I_said I in_heart_of_my on the_cause_of the_children_of the_humankind to_test_them the_ʼElohīm and_to_see (cmp)_they are_animal[s] they to/for_them.
OET (OET-RV) I said to myself, “God tests humanity

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
