If your language does not use abstract nouns for the ideas of favor and supplications, you could express the same ideas in other ways. Alternate translation: [a spirit that causes them to plead with me and causes me to be pleased with them]

The pronoun him refers to the same person as me earlier in the verse. Yahweh shifts here from speaking of himself in the first person to speaking of the pierced one in the third person. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [and they will look to me, whom they pierced. And they will mourn over the one they pierced]

The point of this comparison is that just as people grieve very deeply for the only one, that is, an only child who has died, so the people will mourn over the one whom they pierced. The point of this comparison is that just as people grieve bitterly over the firstborn, that is, a firstborn son who has died, so the people will grieve bitterly over the one whom they pierced.
