MSG(1-4)Well, this is my third visit coming up. Remember the Scripture that says, “A matter becomes clear after two or three witnesses give evidence”? On my second visit I warned that bunch that keeps sinning over and over in the same old ways that when I came back I wouldn’t go easy on them. Now, preparing for the third, I’m saying it again from a distance. If you haven’t changed your ways by the time I get there, look out. You who have been demanding proof that Christ speaks through me will get more than you bargained for. You’ll get the full force of Christ, don’t think you won’t. He was sheer weakness and humiliation when he was killed on the cross, but oh, he’s alive now—in the mighty power of God! We weren’t much to look at, either, when we were humiliated among you, but when we deal with you this next time, we’ll be alive in Christ, strengthened by God.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

13:3-4 Christ speaks through me: Paul represented Christ to the Corinthian congregation, and he would exercise God’s power in dealing with them.
• Paul’s weakness was patterned on the humiliation of Christ, who was crucified in weakness (see 8:9). Paul’s judgment on the sinners would be tempered by the constraint of Christ’s love (5:14-21).
• We, too, are weak: Paul’s humanity was frail, yet he could draw on Christ’s strength (12:10).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

δοκιμὴν ζητεῖτε τοῦ ἐν ἐμοὶ λαλοῦντος Χριστοῦ

proof ˱you_all˲_/are/_seeking ¬which in me speaking ˱of˲_Christ

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of proof, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [you want me to prove that Christ speaks through me]

ἐν ἐμοὶ λαλοῦντος

in me speaking

Alternate translation: [speaking through me]

Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns

ὃς

who

The pronoun who refers to Christ. If this is not clear for your readers, you could include “Christ” here. Alternate translation: [Christ, who]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ἀλλὰ δυνατεῖ ἐν ὑμῖν

but /is/_able among you_all

The implication is that Christ will be powerful among the Corinthian believers when Paul comes and disciplines them using Christ’s power. You could include this information if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [but will punish you powerfully when I come]
