The Word \u201cHebel\u201d

The noun \u05d4\u05b6\u05d1\u05b6\u05dc (hebel), rendered \u201cvapor\u201d in the ULT, is this book\u2019s signature term for what is fleeting or insubstantial. Translators should convey transience rather than moral worthlessness.

The Title \u201cQoheleth\u201d

The Hebrew title \u05e7\u05b9\u05d4\u05b6\u05dc\u05b6\u05ea (from a root meaning \u201cto assemble\u201d) has no exact equivalent. Translators may render it as \u201cthe teacher|Teacher\u201d or transliterate it.
