TSNTyndale Study Notes:

2:1 on October 17 of that same year: This was the last day of the Festival of Tabernacles, the celebration of the summer harvest (see Lev 23:34-43). Hundreds of years earlier, Solomon’s Temple had been dedicated during this festival (1 Kgs 8:2). Haggai’s message was timed to offer the people hope and encouragement in their present distress and discouragement.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

בַּשְּׁבִיעִ֕י בְּעֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאֶחָ֖ד לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ

in/on/at/with,seventh in/on/at/with,twenty and,one of_the,month

Here some words are omitted that in many languages a sentence would need in order to be complete. You can supply these words from the context if that would be clearer in your language. Alternate translation: “in the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month”

Note 2 topic: translate-ordinal

בַּשְּׁבִיעִ֕י בְּעֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאֶחָ֖ד לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ

in/on/at/with,seventh in/on/at/with,twenty and,one of_the,month

If your language does not use ordinal numbers, you could use cardinal numbers here. Alternate translation: “on day 21 of month seven”
