MSG(1-3)“In those days, yes, at that very time
when I put life back together again for Judah and Jerusalem,
I’ll assemble all the godless nations.
I’ll lead them down into Judgment Valley
And put them all on trial, and judge them one and all
because of their treatment of my own people Israel.
They scattered my people all over the pagan world
and grabbed my land for themselves.
They threw dice for my people
  and used them for barter.
They would trade a boy for a whore,
sell a girl for a bottle of wine when they wanted a drink.

FBVThey cast lots for my people; they traded boys in payment for prostitutes and girls to buy wine to drink.[fn]

3:3 The point being made here is the casual way the victims were treated, and how little they were valued: being traded to buy a prostitute's services or some wine to drink.

T4Tand they threw marked stones/cast lots► to determine who would get each of my people.
⇔ Then they sold some of the Israeli boys and girls

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / genericnoun

גוֹרָ֑ל

(Some words not found in UHB: and, show wonders in/on/at/with,heavens and,in/on/at/with,earth blood and, fire and,columns_of smoke )

Yahweh is not referring to a specific lot. He means “lots” in general. It may be more natural in your language to express this meaning by using a plural form. Alternate translation: [lots]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / genericnoun

וַיִּתְּנ֤וּ הַיֶּ֨לֶד֙ בַּזּוֹנָ֔ה וְהַיַּלְדָּ֛ה מָכְר֥וּ

(Some words not found in UHB: and, show wonders in/on/at/with,heavens and,in/on/at/with,earth blood and, fire and,columns_of smoke )

The words a boy, a prostitute, and a girl represent these people in general, not one particular boy or prostitute or girl. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a more natural expression. Alternate translation: [and they traded boys for prostitutes, and they sold girls]
