UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

הִנֵּ֥ה

see/lo/see!

Zechariah is using the term Behold to focus the attention of his listeners on what he is about to say. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [Listen carefully]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

יֽוֹם־בָּ֖א לַֽיהוָ֑ה

day he/it_came to/for=YHWH

Zechariah is using a day is coming for Yahweh as a common expression of the culture to mean “the time is coming when Yahweh will act to judge his enemies and rescue his people.” If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [the time of Yahweh’s judgment is near]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / apostrophe

וְחֻלַּ֥ק שְׁלָלֵ֖ךְ בְּקִרְבֵּֽךְ

and,it_will_be_divided plunder_of,your in,midst_of,your

Zechariah is speaking to the city of Jerusalem, which he knows cannot hear him. He is doing this to communicate to the people listening to him that he feels very strongly about what will happen to the city. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate these words as if he were speaking directly to the people about Jerusalem. Alternate translation: [and the spoil taken from Jerusalem will be divided within that city]

Note 4 topic: writing-pronouns

שְׁלָלֵ֖ךְ בְּקִרְבֵּֽךְ

(Some words not found in UHB: see/lo/see! day he/it_came to/for=YHWH and,it_will_be_divided plunder_of,your in,midst_of,your )

The pronoun your refers to Jerusalem which (see verse 2) represents the people in Jerusalem. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers.

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

וְחֻלַּ֥ק שְׁלָלֵ֖ךְ בְּקִרְבֵּֽךְ

and,it_will_be_divided plunder_of,your in,midst_of,your

The expression will be divided is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [and your enemies will divide your spoil in your midst]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / yousingular

בְּקִרְבֵּֽךְ

in,midst_of,your

The word your is singular here because Zechariah is addressing the city of Jerusalem, so use the singular form in your translation if your language marks that distinction.
