OET (OET-LV) The one having the son, is_having the life, the one not having the son of_ the _god, is_ not _having the life.
OET (OET-RV) Anyone who has the son has life, but anyone who doesn’t have the God’s son, doesn’t have eternal life.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
ὁ ἔχων τὸν Υἱὸν, ἔχει τὴν ζωήν; ὁ μὴ ἔχων τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ, τὴν ζωὴν οὐκ ἔχει
the_‹one› having the Son ˓is˒_having ¬the life the_‹one› not having the Son ¬the ˱of˲_God ¬the life not ˓is˒_having
John speaks of believers who are in a close relationship with Jesus as if Jesus were their possession. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a different expression. Alternate translation: [Anyone who is in a close relationship with the Son has life. Anyone who is not in a close relationship with the Son of God does not have life]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
ἔχει τὴν ζωήν & τὴν ζωὴν οὐκ ἔχει
˓is˒_having ¬the life & ¬the life not ˓is˒_having
Since both groups of people are physically alive, John means this in a spiritual sense. As in [4:9](../04/09.md), he is likely referring to what he calls “eternal life” in [3:15](../03/15.md) and [5:11](../05/11.md). See how you translated that term in those verses. Alternate translation: [has power from God to live as a new person now and will live forever in God’s presence after death … does not have power from God to live as a new person now and will not live forever in God’s presence after death]
Note 3 topic: guidelines-sonofgodprinciples
τὸν Υἱὸν & τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ
the Son & the Son ¬the ˱of˲_God
Son and Son of God are important titles for Jesus that describes his relationship to God.
5:11-12 Whoever has the Son has life: Those who have the Son of God living in them have God’s eternal life now—they enjoy the presence of God’s Spirit (2:20, 25, 27), and they have the guarantee of eternity with God (see Eph 1:13-14).
OET (OET-LV) The one having the son, is_having the life, the one not having the son of_ the _god, is_ not _having the life.
OET (OET-RV) Anyone who has the son has life, but anyone who doesn’t have the God’s son, doesn’t have eternal life.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
