Note 1 topic: headings
If you are using section headings, you could put one here before verse 1. Suggested heading: “Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ Χριστὸς, ἐκ τοῦ Θεοῦ γεγέννηται
everyone ¬which believing that Jesus is the Messiah of ¬the God /has_been/_born
See how you translated the similar expression in 2:29. Alternate translation: [God is the father of everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ἐστιν ὁ Χριστὸς, ἐκ τοῦ Θεοῦ γεγέννηται
everyone ¬which believing that Jesus is the Messiah of ¬the God /has_been/_born
See whether in 2:29 you decided to explain this metaphor. Alternate translation: [God is the spiritual father of everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah]
Note 4 topic: writing-proverbs
πᾶς ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν γεννήσαντα, ἀγαπᾷ καὶ τὸν γεγεννημένον ἐξ αὐτοῦ
everyone ¬which everyone ¬which loving the_‹one› /having/_bore_‹him› /is/_loving also the_‹one› /having_been/_born from him
John includes this short saying to teach something that is generally true about life and that applies to the point he has been developing since 4:7, that genuine believers love one another as God has loved them. Use the natural form in your language for a true saying. Alternate translation: [everyone who loves a father also loves that father’s child]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
πᾶς ὁ ἀγαπῶν τὸν γεννήσαντα, ἀγαπᾷ καὶ τὸν γεγεννημένον ἐξ αὐτοῦ
everyone ¬which everyone ¬which loving the_‹one› /having/_bore_‹him› /is/_loving also the_‹one› /having_been/_born from him
If it would be helpful to your readers, you could state explicitly what this means and how it applies to John’s argument in this part of the letter. See the UST. Alternate translation: [everyone who loves God will also love his fellow believers, since God is their spiritual father]
5:1-5 Those who believe that Jesus is the Christ and the Son of God have been born spiritually as children of God (see John 20:31). Such people are empowered by the Spirit of God to love him and others, and by their faith to obey God and overcome the evil temptations of the world. Through faith, they can love God and live in obedience to him.
OET (OET-LV) Everyone which believing that Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) is the chosen_one/messiah, has_been_born of the god, and everyone which loving the one having_bore him, is_loving also the one having_been_born from him.
OET (OET-RV) Everyone who believes that Yeshua is the messiah has been reborn in God, and everyone who loves the father who gave birth to us, also loves the son that he gave birth to.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
