OET (OET-LV) And_bring DOM penalty_of_his to/for_YHWH on sin_of_his which he_has_sinned a_female from the_flock a_ewe_lamb or a_female_goat_of goats as_sin_offering and_make_atonement on/upon/above_him/it the_priest/officer for_sin_of_his.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
וְהֵבִ֣יא אֶת־אֲשָׁמ֣וֹ לַיהוָ֡ה
and,bring DOM penalty_of,his to/for=YHWH
Here, his guilt does not refer to the legal status of guilt that it did in [5:2–5](../05/02.md). Rather, it refers to the required penalty for that person’s guilt, that is, the animal sacrifice that will provide atonement for the individual’s guilt that he acquired by sinning unintentionally. If it would be helpful in your language, consider making this explicit. Alternate translation: [And he must present to Yahweh the required sacrifice]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
וְהֵבִ֣יא אֶת־אֲשָׁמ֣וֹ לַיהוָ֡ה
and,bring DOM penalty_of,his to/for=YHWH
Here Leviticus seems to be referring to the sacrifice as his guilt by association with the way that it is required to atone for the person’s guilt. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression from your language or state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [then he shall bring the sacrifice required to make restitution for his guilt]
Note 3 topic: writing-poetry
חַטָּאתוֹ֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר חָטָ֜א
sin_of,his which/who committed
Here words are being repeated for emphasis. See how you translated the similar phrase in [4:23](../04/23.md) and [4:28](../04/28.md).
Note 4 topic: translate-unknown
שְׂעִירַ֥ת עִזִּ֖ים
female_goat_of goats
Here, a kid means a young goat. If your language has a specific word for the young of this particular animal group, consider using it here. If not, consider using a generic expression. Alternate translation: [a young goat]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
וְכִפֶּ֥ר עָלָ֛יו הַכֹּהֵ֖ן
and,make_atonement on/upon/above=him/it the=priest/officer
See how you translated the similar expression in [1:4](../01/04.md).
5:6 The penalty was apparently fulfilled by the required sacrifice (see study note on 4:1–5:13).
• The actions described in 5:1-5 best fit those of a layperson, so a female offering was permitted, in keeping with the principle demonstrated in 4:28, 32.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
