OET (OET-LV)And_when_spoke_he with_me according_the_words/messages the_these I_put face_of_my towards_land and_I_was_dumb.

OET (OET-RV)While he was telling me all that, I faced the ground and wasn’t able to speak.

SIL Open Translator’s Notes:

Section 10:1–12:13: Daniel saw a vision of an angelic man and the end of the age

In this long final vision, Daniel was told of events leading up to the end of the age.

Paragraph 10:15–17

Daniel was in so much awe of the man in linen that he was unable to respond to him. He just looked down in silence.

10:15a

While he was speaking these words to me,

While he was speaking these words to me: The Hebrew expression that the BSB translates as these words is literally “according to these words.” It refers to the things that the man had been saying to him in 10:12–14. Refer back to this in a way that is natural in your language. For example:

While he was saying this to me (NIV)

When he said this (GNT)

10:15b

I set my face toward the ground and became speechless.

I set my face toward the ground: The Hebrew clause more literally says, “I gave [or set/put] my face to the ground.” In this context this probably indicates that Daniel looked down at the ground. He was in awe of the one who was speaking and could not look at him. Here are some other ways to translate this:

I stared at the ground (GNT)

I fixed my eyes on the ground (REB)

I looked down at the ground (NLT)

and became speechless: Daniel was too much in awe to speak. Avoid suggesting that he was being rude to the angelic figure. Here are some other ways to translate this idea:

and unable to speak (NET)

unable to say a word (NLT)

and could not speak (NCV)

uW Translation Notes:

נָתַ֧תִּי פָנַ֛י אַ֖רְצָה

I_give face_of,my towards=land

Daniel may have done this to show humble reverence, or because he was afraid. Alternate translation: “I looked at the ground”
