OET (OET-LV) And receive the helmet of_ the _salvation, and the sword of_the spirit, which is the_message of_god,
OET (OET-RV) Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of God’s spirit which is the message from God.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
τὴν περικεφαλαίαν τοῦ σωτηρίου δέξασθε
the helmet ¬the ˱of˲_salvation receive
The salvation that God gives protects the believer’s mind just as a helmet protects the head of a soldier.
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
τοῦ σωτηρίου
¬the ˱of˲_salvation
If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word salvation, you could express the same idea with a verbal form. Alternate translation: “that represents the fact that God has saved you” See the UST.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
τὴν μάχαιραν τοῦ Πνεύματος, ὅ ἐστιν ῥῆμα Θεοῦ
the the sword ˱of˲_the Spirit which is /the/_word ˱of˲_God
In this metaphor, God’s message is compared to a soldier’s sword. Just as soldiers use a sword to fight and defeat their enemy, so a believer can use God’s message in the Bible to fight against the devil.
6:17 Put on salvation as your helmet: Protect the mind with the assurance that God has indeed saved and given eternal life to those who believe in Christ.
• The sword of the Spirit pictures using the word of God to respond to an attack, either with the Good News or with the spoken or written word of God more generally (cp. Jer 23:29; Heb 4:12).
OET (OET-LV) And receive the helmet of_ the _salvation, and the sword of_the spirit, which is the_message of_god,
OET (OET-RV) Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of God’s spirit which is the message from God.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
