ULTFor if I had boasted anything to him about you, I was not ashamed, but as we spoke everything to you in truth, in the same way also our boasting became the truth to Titus.

USTWe were this happy because you did not disgrace me after I had said great things about you to Titus. Instead, Titus found out that the great things we said about you were actually true. This is just like how everything we told you was also true.

BSBIndeed, I was not embarrassed by anything I had boasted to him about you. But just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting to Titus has proved to be true as well.

BLBFor if I have boasted anything to him about you, I was not put to shame; but as we have spoken all things to you in truth, so also our boasting to Titus became truth.

FBVI boasted[fn] to him about you, and you didn't let me down. Just as all I've told you is true, my boasting about you to Titus has proved to be true too!

7:14 Here and elsewhere in this letter Paul speaks of his boasting. This should be taken to mean his commendation of others, rather than pride in himself.

TCNTFor if I made any boast to him about you, I was not put to shame. But just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting to Titus has also proven to be true.

T4TI had told Titus that I was pleased about you. And I did not need to be ashamed for feeling that way about you, because you did what I knew that you would do. Just like everything that I have taught you and written to you has been the truth, the good things that I told Titus about you were also true.

LEBFor if I have boasted anything to him about you, I have not been put to shame, but as I have spoken everything to you in truth, thus also our boasting to Titus has proven to be true[fn].

7:14 Literally “has become truth”

BBEFor I was not put to shame in anything in which I may have made clear to him my pride in you; but as we said nothing to you but what was true, so the good things which I said to Titus about you were seen by him to be true.

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

7:14 All along Paul had been optimistic, despite his fears, about the outcome of Titus’s trip to Corinth.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

ὅτι

because

Here, the word For introduces another reason why Paul and his fellow workers rejoiced even more abundantly (7:13). If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a different word or phrase that introduces a reason. Alternate translation: [Also, we rejoiced since,] or [Further,]

Note 2 topic: grammar-connect-condition-fact

εἴ τι αὐτῷ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν κεκαύχημαι, οὐ κατῃσχύνθην

if anything ˱to˲_him about you_all ˱I˲_/have/_boasted not ˱I˲_/was/_disgraced

Paul is speaking as if his boasting about the Corinthians were a possibility, but he means that it is actually true. He uses this form to introduce what he said about the Corinthians that might have caused him to be ashamed if it were not true. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use a form that introduces something that Paul did that might have led to being ashamed. Alternate translation: [I was not ashamed because of what I had boasted to him about you] or [what I boasted to him about you did not cause me to be ashamed]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

οὐ κατῃσχύνθην

not ˱I˲_/was/_disgraced

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who did the action, it is clear from the context that it was the Corinthians. Alternate translation: [I did not feel shame] or [you did not shame me]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

πάντα & ἐλαλήσαμεν ὑμῖν

all_‹things› & ˱we˲_spoke ˱to˲_you_all

Here Paul could be referring to: (1) everything he has told the Corinthians, including the gospel. Alternate translation: [we spoke everything we have told you] (2) specifically what he told the Corinthians about his travel plans. Alternate translation: [we spoke to you about our travel plans]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

ἐν ἀληθείᾳ

in truth

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of truth, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [truthfully] or [in a truthful way]

Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

ἡ καύχησις ἡμῶν ἡ ἐπὶ Τίτου ἀλήθεια ἐγενήθη

the boasting ˱of˲_us (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ὅτι εἴ τι αὐτῷ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν κεκαύχημαι οὐ κατῃσχύνθην ἀλλʼ ὡς πάντα ἐν ἀληθείᾳ ἐλαλήσαμεν ὑμῖν οὕτως καὶ ἡ καύχησις ἡμῶν ἐπὶ Τίτου ἀλήθεια ἐγενήθη)

If your language does not use abstract nouns for the ideas of boasting and truth, you could express the same ideas in another way. Alternate translation: [what we boasted about became true with reference to Titus]
