OET (OET-LV)And the god both the master raised, and us will_be_raising_up, by the power of_him.

OET (OET-RV)Actually, God made the master come alive again, and by his power, he’ll also do that for us.

SIL Open Translator’s Notes:

Section 6:12–20: Believers must live pure lives because they belong to the Lord

In 6:12–20 Paul talked about another problem in the church in Corinth. He had heard that some people in Corinth were behaving immorally. It appears that some of the Christians there were saying that it was all right for them to live as they pleased, because God would save and forgive them. They were saying that it did not matter what they did with their bodies. Paul said that they were wrong. In this section he told them why as believers they should honor God in everything they did.

Paragraph 6:12–17

In this paragraph Paul wrote that it is wrong for Christians to behave immorally, that is, to disobey God’s laws about sex. It seems some believers in Corinth had misunderstood what Paul had taught them. Paul had taught that a believer does not have to obey Jewish rules and rituals in order to become acceptable to God. But the Corinthians thought that since Christians do not have to keep the Jewish law, they could do whatever they wanted. Paul said that immoral behavior is wrong because our bodies belong to the Lord and he sent his Spirit to live in our bodies.

6:14a

By His power God raised the Lord from the dead,

6:14b

and He will raise us also.

6:14a-b

In the Greek this verse connects to the previous verse part with a common conjunction. The BSB and GNT do not translate it, but the RSV translates it as “And.” Introduce this next step in Paul’s argument in a way that is natural in your language.

By His power God raised the Lord from the dead, and He will raise us also: Paul said this in order to show that our physical bodies are important to God. He did not want the Corinthians to think that what they did with their bodies did not matter. God will bring our bodies back to life some day and make them new and glorious, just as he did to Jesus’ body. He will do this by his power, just as he worked powerfully to raise Christ. Other ways to translate this include:

God will raise us from death by the same power that he used when he raised our Lord to life. (CEV)

And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power (ESV)

By His power: The phrase By His power indicates that God worked powerfully. In some languages it may be natural to translate the noun power as an adjective:

God is strong/powerful and he….

The/Our powerful/mighty God

General Comment on 6:14a-b

In some languages it may be natural to reverse the order of 6:14a-b. For example:

14bAnd God will raise our bodies from the dead by his marvelous power, 14ajust as he raised our Lord from the dead. (NLT)

14bAnd God is powerful enough to raise our(incl) bodies from the dead, 14ain the same way that he raised our Lord from the dead.

uW Translation Notes:

δὲ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ὁ Δέ Θεός καί τόν Κύριον ἤγειρεν καί ἡμάς ἐξεγερεῖ διά τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ)

Here, Now introduces one way in which “the Lord is for the body” ([6:13](../06/13.md)). Human bodies are important and are not for sexual immorality, because God will raise those who believe to new life, and this includes human bodies. If Now would not introduce a further development of the argument in your language, you could use a word or phrase that does function in this way. Alternate translation: [Further,]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

τὸν Κύριον ἤγειρεν, καὶ ἡμᾶς ἐξεγερεῖ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ὁ Δέ Θεός καί τόν Κύριον ἤγειρεν καί ἡμάς ἐξεγερεῖ διά τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ)

Paul uses the words raised and raise up to refer to someone who had previously died coming back to life. If your language does not use these words to describe coming back to life, you can use a comparable idiom or express the idea plainly. Alternate translation: [restored the Lord to life and will also restore us to life]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo

ἤγειρεν & ἐξεγερεῖ

raised & ˓will_be˒_raising_up

Here, raised and raise up have the same meaning. Paul uses a slightly different word for variety or because he is referring to the future. In your translation, you could use the same word for raised and raise up. Alternate translation: [raised … will … raise]

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

διὰ τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ὁ Δέ Θεός καί τόν Κύριον ἤγειρεν καί ἡμάς ἐξεγερεῖ διά τῆς δυνάμεως αὐτοῦ)

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind power, you can express the idea by using an adverb such as “powerfully” or an adjective such as “powerful.” Alternate translation: [by working powerfully] or [by his powerful action]
