OET (OET-LV)Ancestors_of_your_all’s where [are]_they and_the_prophets the_to_forever do_they_live.

OET (OET-RV)So where are you ancestors and the prophets now? Do they live forever?

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

(Occurrence 0) Your fathers, where are they? Where are the prophets, are they here forever?

(Some words not found in UHB: ancestors_of,your_all's where they and, the, prophets the,to,forever live )

These two rhetorical questions emphasize that both their ancestors and the prophets who proclaimed Yahweh’s message to their ancestors have died. The questions can be translated as a statement. Alternate translation: “Neither your fathers nor the prophets are here because they have all died.”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

1:1-6 The prelude identifies the book’s themes as repentance and spiritual renewal, and establishes a tone of hope and encouragement.

OET (OET-RV)So where are you ancestors and the prophets now? Do they live forever?
