OET (OET-LV) see Oh_YHWH if/because distress to_me parts_of_my_inward they_are_in_turmoil heart_of_my it_has_been_overturned in_my_inner_of_being if/because extremely_(be_rebellious) I_have_been_rebellious from_outside it_has_bereaved a_sword is_in_house like_death.
OET (OET-RV) Look, O Yahweh, because I’m engulfed—my stomach churns.
⇔ My heart is undone within me, because I’ve disobeyed grievously.
⇔ Out in the street, the sword bereaves.
⇔ Inside the house, there’s death.
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / imperative
רְאֵ֨ה יְהוָ֤ה כִּֽי־צַר־לִי֙
see YHWH (Some words not found in UHB: see YHWH that/for/because/then/when distress to=me parts_of,my_inward churns wrung heart_of,my in,my_inner_of,being that/for/because/then/when to_be_rebellious I_was_rebellious from,outside bereaves sword [is]_in,house like,death )
This is an imperative, but it communicates a polite request rather than a command. Jerusalem is urgently appealing to Yahweh to observe her suffering. If the imperative does not communicate a polite request for your readers, then use a form in your language that communicates a polite request. Alternate translation: [Please see, Yahweh, that I am in distress]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
מֵעַ֣י חֳמַרְמָ֔רוּ
parts_of,my_inward churns
Here, my inward parts represent deep emotions. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [I am deeply distressed]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
נֶהְפַּ֤ךְ לִבִּי֙ בְּקִרְבִּ֔י
(Some words not found in UHB: see YHWH that/for/because/then/when distress to=me parts_of,my_inward churns wrung heart_of,my in,my_inner_of,being that/for/because/then/when to_be_rebellious I_was_rebellious from,outside bereaves sword [is]_in,house like,death )
Here Jerusalem is speaking as if her heart had been physically overturned within her. She means that she is in complete emotional anguish. Your language may have a comparable expression that you can use in your translation, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [I am in total anguish within myself]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
נֶהְפַּ֤ךְ לִבִּי֙ בְּקִרְבִּ֔י
(Some words not found in UHB: see YHWH that/for/because/then/when distress to=me parts_of,my_inward churns wrung heart_of,my in,my_inner_of,being that/for/because/then/when to_be_rebellious I_was_rebellious from,outside bereaves sword [is]_in,house like,death )
The expression my heart has been overturned is a passive verbal form. If it would be unnatural to use that form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. If you need to say who does the action, the context indicates that it is God. Alternate translation: [God has overturned my heart within me]
Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / merism
מִח֥וּץ שִׁכְּלָה־חֶ֖רֶב בַּבַּ֥יִת כַּמָּֽוֶת
from,outside (Some words not found in UHB: see YHWH that/for/because/then/when distress to=me parts_of,my_inward churns wrung heart_of,my in,my_inner_of,being that/for/because/then/when to_be_rebellious I_was_rebellious from,outside bereaves sword [is]_in,house like,death )
Jerusalem is referring to all of the destruction by naming two extremes, Outside and inside. If it would be helpful in your language, you could use an equivalent expression or plain language. Alternate translation: [Everywhere there is death, both outside in the streets and inside the buildings]
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
