OET (OET-LV) Be_subjected to_every human creation because_of the master, whether to_the_king as being_above,
OET (OET-RV) Submit yourselves to every human authority because you all follow the master, whether it’s the king who rules,
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
διὰ τὸν Κύριον
because_of the Lord
Here, the Lord refers to Jesus. This phrase could mean: (1) we should do this to follow the example of Jesus, who also obeyed human authorities. Alternate translation: [in order to follow the Lord’s example] (2) we should do this to honor Jesus. Alternate translation: [in order to honor the Lord]
βασιλεῖ ὡς ὑπερέχοντι
˱to˲_˓the˒_king as being_above
Alternate translation: [to the king as the highest human authority] or [to the king, who has supreme human authority]
2:13–3:7 This section revolves around the key phrase submit to all human authority, which Peter applies to several relationships: Christians should accept the authority of those in government (2:13-17), Christian slaves should accept the authority of their masters (2:18-25), and Christian wives should accept the authority of their husbands (3:1-6). Peter seems to be following an early Christian usage of the traditional household code, in which a series of instructions was given for different members of the household (cp. Eph 5:21–6:9; Col 3:18–4:1; 1 Tim 5:1–6:2; Titus 2:1-10).
2:13 In Peter’s day, the king was the Roman emperor. Christians were suffering in the hands of the state and would soon suffer more intensely under Nero.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
