Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / quotesinquotes
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת קִנֵּ֥אתִי לְצִיּ֖וֹן
thus he/it_had_said YHWH armies/messengers jealous for,Zion
If it would be clearer in your language, you could translate this so that there is not a quotation within a quotation. In this verse, Zechariah is quoting what Yahweh says directly. Alternate translation: [I, Yahweh of hosts, am passionate for Zion]
Note 2 topic: writing-quotations
כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת
thus he/it_had_said YHWH armies/messengers
The phrase Thus says Yahweh of Armies introduces a direct quotation from Yahweh. In your translation, use a natural way of introducing direct quotations in your language.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism
קִנֵּ֥אתִי לְצִיּ֖וֹן קִנְאָ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֑ה וְחֵמָ֥ה גְדוֹלָ֖ה קִנֵּ֥אתִי לָֽהּ
jealous for,Zion jealousy exceedingly and, rage great jealous to/for=her/it
These two clauses mean basically the same thing. The second emphasizes the meaning of the first by repeating the same idea with different words. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could combine them and express the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: [I have been extremely jealous for Zion with great heat]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns
קִנְאָ֣ה גְדוֹלָ֑ה
jealousy exceedingly
If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea of jealousy, you could express the same idea in another way. Alternate translation: [and desire to keep her as my own]
Note 5 topic: writing-pronouns
לָֽהּ
to/for=her/it
The pronoun her refers to Zion. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [for Zion with]
Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
וְחֵמָ֥ה גְדוֹלָ֖ה קִנֵּ֥אתִי לָֽהּ
and,rage great jealous to/for=her/it
Yahweh is speaking of his strong jealousy as if it were heat. If this image communicates well in your language, please use it. If not, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [and I am very angry with their enemies]
OET (OET-LV) Thus YHWH he_says soldiers/messengers I_am_jealous for_Tsiyyōn/(Zion) jealousy great and_rage great I_am_jealous to/for_her/it.
OET (OET-RV) “Commander-in-chief Yahweh says: I’m passionate for Zion with dedicated zeal and I am passionate for her with fierce anger.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
Acknowledgements: The Hebrew text, lemmas, and morphology are all thanks to the OSHB and some of the glosses are from Macula Hebrew.
