TSNTyndale Study Notes:

15:1 Wheat harvest came at the end of May; how long this was after the wedding feast is not known. There was some precedent for a bride’s remaining in her parents’ home for a few months before moving to the groom’s home, while allowing conjugal visits.

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

(Occurrence 0) He said to himself

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_was from=days in/on/at/with,time harvest wheat and,visited Shimshvon DOM his/its=wife/woman in/on/at/with,young_goat_of goats and=he/it_said go to/towards wife's,my the,room,in and=not let,him father,her to,enter )

This refers to thinking. Alternate translation: “He thought to himself”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

(Occurrence 0) I will go to my wife’s room

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_was from=days in/on/at/with,time harvest wheat and,visited Shimshvon DOM his/its=wife/woman in/on/at/with,young_goat_of goats and=he/it_said go to/towards wife's,my the,room,in and=not let,him father,her to,enter )

Samson intended to sleep with his wife. This can be stated clearly. Alternate translation: “I will go to my wife’s room, so we may sleep together”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / ellipsis

(Occurrence 0) would not allow him to go in

(Some words not found in UHB: and=he/it_was from=days in/on/at/with,time harvest wheat and,visited Shimshvon DOM his/its=wife/woman in/on/at/with,young_goat_of goats and=he/it_said go to/towards wife's,my the,room,in and=not let,him father,her to,enter )

The phrase “her room” is understood from what Samson said to himself. It can be repeated here. Alternate translation: “would not permit him to go into her room”
