TSNTyndale Study Notes:

15:6-10 The chain of revenge was complicated (cp. 9:7-21). First, Samson took revenge on the community of Philistines, not on his in-laws. Next, the Philistines accepted that Samson was a victim of injustice (see study note on 14:20) and took revenge on Samson’s in-laws, which then led Samson to avenge his in-laws by attacking the Philistines. It all triggered a potential war with Israel. God was beginning to rescue Israel through Samson (13:5; cp. 1 Sam 7:3).

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

פְלִשְׁתִּים֮

Fəlishtiy

The author assumes that the reader will know that by the Philistines, he means the leaders of the Philistines. You could say that explicitly if it would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [the leaders of the Philistines]

Note 2 topic: writing-pronouns

וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ

and=they_said

Here the author is not using they to refer to specific people. Use an expression for this that would be natural in your language. Alternate translation: [And people told them] or [And they were told]

Note 3 topic: translate-kinship

חֲתַ֣ן הַתִּמְנִ֔י כִּ֚י לָקַ֣ח אֶת אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ

son-in-law_of the,Timnite that/for/because/then/when he/it_had_taken DOM his/its=wife/woman

Your language may have its own term or expression for this relationship. Alternate translation: [who was engaged to marry the daughter of the Timnite, because he took her]

Note 4 topic: translate-names

הַתִּמְנִ֔י

the,Timnite

The word Timnite is the name for a person from the town of Timnah. Alternate translation: [that man from Timnah]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / explicitinfo

וַיִּשְׂרְפ֥וּ אוֹתָ֛הּ וְאֶת אָבִ֖יהָ בָּאֵֽשׁ

and,burned DOM,her and=DOM father_of,her in/on/at/with,fire

It might seem that the expression burned … with fire contains extra information that would be unnatural to express in your language. If so, you can shorten it. Alternate translation: [and burned her and her father to death] or [and killed her and her father by setting them on fire]
