OET (OET-LV) Deaths_of diseases they_will_die not they_will_be_mourned and_not they_will_be_buried (into)_dung on the_surface_of the_soil they_will_become and_by_sword and_by_famine they_will_come_to_an_end and_it_will_become corpse[s]_of_their for_food for_the_bird[s]_of the_heavens and_for_the_animal[s]_of the_earth/land.
(Occurrence 0) They will die diseased deaths
(Some words not found in UHB: deadly_of diseases die not mourned and=not buried (into),dung on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in face/surface_of the=soil be and,by,sword and,by,famine perish and,it_will_become corpse[s]_of,their for=food for,the_bird[s]_of the=heavens and,for,the_animal[s]_of the=earth/land )
Alternate translation: “They will die from deadly diseases”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
(Occurrence 0) They will not be mourned or buried
(Some words not found in UHB: deadly_of diseases die not mourned and=not buried (into),dung on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in face/surface_of the=soil be and,by,sword and,by,famine perish and,it_will_become corpse[s]_of,their for=food for,the_bird[s]_of the=heavens and,for,the_animal[s]_of the=earth/land )
If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “No one will mourn for them or bury them”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / simile
(Occurrence 0) They will be like dung on the ground
(Some words not found in UHB: deadly_of diseases die not mourned and=not buried (into),dung on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in face/surface_of the=soil be and,by,sword and,by,famine perish and,it_will_become corpse[s]_of,their for=food for,the_bird[s]_of the=heavens and,for,the_animal[s]_of the=earth/land )
The sons and daughters born in the land are compared to dung on the ground to emphasize that they will be disgusting and that no one will bury them. See how you translated a similar phrase in [Jeremiah 8:2](../08/02.md).
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / euphemism
(Occurrence 0) they will come to an end by sword and famine
(Some words not found in UHB: deadly_of diseases die not mourned and=not buried (into),dung on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in face/surface_of the=soil be and,by,sword and,by,famine perish and,it_will_become corpse[s]_of,their for=food for,the_bird[s]_of the=heavens and,for,the_animal[s]_of the=earth/land )
The phrase “come to an end” is a mild way to say that they will die. The word “sword” represents an army whose soldiers fight with swords. The phrase represents dying in battle. Alternate translation: “they will die in battle or from famine” (See also: figs-metonymy)
16:1-18 Jeremiah’s life was to be a sign or a parable (see “Prophetic Sign Acts” Theme Note), as the Lord instructed him not to marry (Jer 16:1-4) and not to go to funerals (16:5-7) or celebrations (16:8-9).
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
