OET (OET-RV)On the seventh day, the priest must inspect that washed material, and if the growth hasn’t changed its appearance, even if it hasn’t spread, then it’s ‘unclean’ and must be burnt in the fire—it’s a mildew that’s on the front or back of the material.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

אַחֲרֵ֣י ׀ הֻכַּבֵּ֣ס אֶת־הַנֶּ֗גַע

after washed DOM the,plague

If your language does not use the passive form in this way, you can state this in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [after the item’s owner has washed the infection]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom

וְ֠הִנֵּה לֹֽא־הָפַ֨ךְ הַנֶּ֤גַע אֶת־עֵינוֹ֙

and=see/lo/see! not changed the,plague DOM eye_of,its

The expression turned its eye is an idiom that refers to the appearance of the infection changing. In other words, for an infection to have turned its eye is for that infection to have changed its appearance, likely by spreading or changing color. If your language has a similar expression, consider using it here. If not, consider using a generic expression. Alternate translation: [and note, the infection appears to be unchanged]

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / yousingular

בָּאֵ֖שׁ תִּשְׂרְפֶ֑נּוּ

with,fire you,will_burn_it

Here, you is singular. It refers to the owner of the infected item, so use the singular form in your translation if your language marks that distinction.

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

בָּאֵ֖שׁ תִּשְׂרְפֶ֑נּוּ

with,fire you,will_burn_it

As the Introduction to this chapter discusses, here the author of Leviticus switches to a second-person address. If the sudden switch to the second person would not be natural in your language, consider continuing to use the third person in your translation. Alternate translation: [The owner of the item should burn it with fire]

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / extrainfo

בָּאֵ֖שׁ תִּשְׂרְפֶ֑נּוּ

with,fire you,will_burn_it

This expression contains extra information that would be unnatural to express in some languages. If this is true of your language, you could shorten the expression. See how you handled the similar expression in [7:17](../07/17.md). Alternate translation: [You must burn it completely]

פְּחֶ֣תֶת הִ֔וא

fungus who/which

Alternate translation: [It is judged to be an infectionus and decaying mold or mildew]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

13:47-59 The rainy season in Israel, when the weather is humid and cool, extends from mid-October through March. Mildew flourishes during this time, and the spores can trigger serious allergic reactions, posing a health problem. The regulations for mildew in clothing were similar to those for infections in people. If the mildew showed signs of spreading, it was serious. If it could be stopped or washed or cut out, a garment could be saved. This process was also similar to the treatment of rot and mold in buildings (14:33-53).
