Note 6 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
וְיָשֹׁ֛ב חֲר֥וֹן אַף־יְהוָ֖ה
so,that_it_may_turn_away fierce_of also/though YHWH
Yahweh is using the burning of the nose of Yahweh as a common expression of the culture to refer to his anger, and for it to return means that his anger will stop. If this phrase does not have that meaning for your readers, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [let the fierce anger of Yahweh turn away]
OET (OET-LV) And_ YHWH _he/it_said to Mosheh take DOM all_of the_chiefs_of the_people and_impale them to/for_YHWH before the_sun so_ the_burning_of _that_it_may_turn_away of_the_anger of_YHWH from_Yisrāʼēl/(Israel).
OET (OET-RV) Then Yahweh told Mosheh, “Execute all the people’s leaders and display their bodies in broad daylight, and then Yahweh’s anger might turn back away from Yisrael.”
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
