OET (OET-LV)To_no_one nothing be_owing, except not/lest which one_another to_be_loving, because/for the one loving the other, the_law has_fulfilled.

OET (OET-RV)Don’t be in debt to anyone other than the debt of love to each other, because those who love one another have fulfilled God’s law

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / doublenegatives

μηδενὶ μηδὲν ὀφείλετε

˱to˲_no_one nothing /be/_owing

If your readers would misunderstand this double negative, you could translate it as a positive statement. Alternate translation: “Do not owe anyone anything”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor

μηδενὶ μηδὲν ὀφείλετε, εἰ μὴ τὸ ἀλλήλους ἀγαπᾶν

˱to˲_no_one nothing /be/_owing except ¬not/lest ¬which one_another /to_be/_loving

Here Paul speaks of loving other believers as if it were a debt owed to them. If it would be helpful in your language, you could express the meaning plainly or use a simile. Alternate translation: “Owe nothing to anyone, but love one another as if it were a debt that you owed them”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τὸ ἀλλήλους

¬which one_another

Here, one another refers to other Christians. If it would be helpful in your language, you could state this explicitly. Alternate translation: “other believers”

Note 4 topic: grammar-collectivenouns

νόμον

/the/_law

See how you translated the law in 2:12.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

13:8 The idea of obligation is the hinge that connects 13:1-7 and 13:8-10. Christians are to “give to everyone what [they] owe them” (13:7), and Christians always owe love to their neighbors.
• Owe nothing to anyone: Debts are not sinful but should be avoided and, if incurred, should be promptly repaid so that the believer is free to serve in love (see Prov 22:7).
• love one another: Believers are called to love all those they encounter (Rom 12:14-21; Luke 10:25-37), but the phrase especially emphasizes the love that each believer owes to other believers.
• you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law: This teaching closely follows Jesus’ teaching in Matt 22:34-40.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
