TSNTyndale Study Notes:

6:1-19 With the financial crisis solved (ch 5), the narrative returns to how the enemies of rebuilding tried to intimidate or eliminate Nehemiah.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

וָאַכִּ֕ירָה וְהִנֵּ֥ה

and,perceived, and=see/lo/see!

The term “behold” is used to focus attention on the words that follow. Within this episode as a whole, it creates the impression of Nehemiah suddenly realizing something that had not been clear to him before. Alternate translation: “All of a sudden I realized”

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

לֹֽא־אֱלֹהִ֖ים שְׁלָח֑וֹ

not ʼElohīm sent,him

Shemaiah seems to have been pretending that God had revealed to him prophetically that people would be coming secretly at night to kill Nehemiah. If it would be helpful in your language, you could say this explicitly. Alternate translation: “God had not given Shemaiah a prophetic message for me”

כִּ֤י הַנְּבוּאָה֙ דִּבֶּ֣ר עָלַ֔י וְטוֹבִיָּ֥ה וְסַנְבַלַּ֖ט שְׂכָרֽוֹ

that/for/because/then/when the,prophecy he/it_had_said against,me and,Tobiah and,Sanballat hired,him

Alternate translation: “Instead, he was saying these things to hinder my work because Tobiah and Sanballat had paid him to say them”
