OET (OET-RV) So King Ahazyah died just as Yahweh had said via Eliyah. Then Ahazyah’s younger brother Yehoram (Joram) became king in his place, because Ahazyah didn’t have any sons. This happened in the second year of the reign of Yehoshafat’s son King Yehoram over Yehudah.

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [And because a son was not to him, Jehoram reigned in his place in the year of two to Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah]

The author is introducing Jehoram as a participant in the story as the new king of Israel. His characteristic method throughout this book, as shown here, is to refer to a year in the reign of the king of one kingdom, Israel or Judah, in order to identify when a king of the other kingdom began to reign. If you have already translated the book of 1 Kings, see how you translated the same kind of introduction in [1 Kings 15:1](../1ki/15/01.md) and similar instances throughout that book.
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit
יְהוֹרָם֙
Yəhōrām/(Joram)
The author describes Jehoram in [8:16](../08/16.md) (where he calls him “Joram”) as “the son of Ahab.” This means that Jehoram was Ahaziah’s younger brother. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [his younger brother Jehoram]

If your language would not describe a year of a king’s reign in a form such as the year of two, you could represent this year in a form that your language would use. Alternate translation: [in the second year of Jehoram]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
