ULT And he died, according to the word of Yahweh that Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his place in the year of two to Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, because a son was not to him.

UST So Ahaziah died, just as Yahweh told Elijah to say would happen. Ahaziah had no son to succeed him as king. So Jehoram, another son of Ahab, became the next king. This happened when Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat had been ruling Judah for almost two years.

1:17 “Joram,” spelled here Jehoram. For purposes of clarity the king of Israel is called Joram in this translation, while the king of Judah is called Jehoram, though the names are basically the same and are used interchangeably in the Hebrew text.

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [And because a son was not to him, Jehoram reigned in his place in the year of two to Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah]

Yəhōrām/(Joram)

The author describes Jehoram in [8:16](../08/16.md) (where he calls him “Joram”) as “the son of Ahab.” This means that Jehoram was Ahaziah’s younger brother. You could indicate this explicitly in your translation if that would be helpful to your readers. Alternate translation: [his younger brother Jehoram]
