OET (OET-RV) One day, King Ahazyah fell through a lattice in his upper room in Shomron (Samaria) and was injured, so he sent messengers to go and ask Ekron’s god Baal-Zevuv if he would recover.

1:2 An upper room or balcony enclosed with latticework was common; it allowed for the free flow of air and a degree of privacy, but latticework was easily broken.
• Baal-zebub (lord of flies) may be a parody of a Canaanite deity named Baal-zebul (Baal is prince). The name of this deity was later used for Satan (see study note on Matt 10:25). Ahaziah followed his father Ahab in worshiping Baal.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
