OET (OET-LV) And whenever may_be_finished the thousand years, will_be_being_released the Satan/(Sāţān) out_of the prison of_him,
In this section, John saw that Satan was set free and left the Abyss. Then Satan deceived people all over the world and led them in a war against God. But God sent fire and the fire killed all the people in Satan’s army. Then God took Satan and threw him into the lake of fire.
Other examples of headings for this section are:
Satan rebelled a last time and God punished him
The Defeat of Satan (GNT)
Satan’s last rebellion, defeat, and punishment
When the thousand years are complete,
¶ After the thousand years have passed/ended,
¶ After the thousand years are finished,
Satan will be released from his prison,
Satan will be allowed to leave the jail that he was in
the angel will release Satan from the prison where he was bound.
Satan will be released: This clause is passive. Some languages must use an active clause. Probably the angel who bound Satan now released him. For example:
the angel will release Satan
his prison: Satan was locked in the Abyss (20:1–3), so John refers to it as his prison. The word prison refers to a place in which people are locked inside so they cannot leave or escape. Another way to translate this phrase is:
the jail he was in
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
ὅταν τελεσθῇ τὰ χίλια ἔτη
whenever ˓may_be˒_finished (Some words not found in SR-GNT: Καί ὅταν τελεσθῇ τά χιλία ἔτη λυθήσεται ὁ Σατανᾶς ἐκ τῆς φυλακῆς αὐτοῦ)
If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: [at the end of the thousand years]
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive
λυθήσεται ὁ Σατανᾶς
˓will_be_being˒_released ¬the Satan
If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. See how you translated the similar expression in [20:3](../20/03.md). Alternate translation: [God will command the angel who has the key to the abyss to release Satan]
OET (OET-LV) And whenever may_be_finished the thousand years, will_be_being_released the Satan/(Sāţān) out_of the prison of_him,
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
