OET (OET-LV)Likewise also the the good works are quite_evident, and the ones being otherwise, are_ not _being_able to_be_hidden.

OET (OET-RV) It’s the same with people’s good deeds—some are quite easy to see and others aren’t, but nothing will be hidden in the end.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

καὶ τὰ ἔργα τὰ καλὰ πρόδηλα

also the works ¬the good quite_evident_‹are›

Here Paul implies that these are the good works of some people, since he states in the second half of the verse that some good works are not evident. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make that idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “also the good works of some are evident”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

τὰ ἄλλως ἔχοντα

the ¬the the_‹ones› otherwise being

Here Paul is referring to good works that are otherwise because they are not immediately evident. If it would be helpful in your language, you could make that idea more explicit. Alternate translation: “the ones that are not immediately evident” or “the good works that are secret”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / doublenegatives

κρυβῆναι οὐ δύναταί

/to_be/_hidden not (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ὡσαύτως καὶ τὰ ἔργα τὰ καλὰ πρόδηλα καὶ τὰ ἄλλως ἔχοντα κρυβῆναι οὐ δύνανται)

If it would be clearer in your language, you could use a positive expression to translate this double negative that consists of the negative particle not and the negative verb hidden. Alternate translation: “will necessarily be revealed”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / activepassive

κρυβῆναι οὐ δύναταί

/to_be/_hidden not (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ὡσαύτως καὶ τὰ ἔργα τὰ καλὰ πρόδηλα καὶ τὰ ἄλλως ἔχοντα κρυβῆναι οὐ δύνανται)

If your language does not use this passive form, you could express the idea in active form or in another way that is natural in your language. Alternate translation: “cannot stay secret” or “are not able to remain unknown”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

5:17-25 Elders: As in Judaism, community leaders (see also 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9) were usually older men who were leaders in the wider community. The letters to Timothy and Titus recognize an office of elders, as here (see also 1 Tim 4:14; Titus 1:5), but the word is also used generally for older men in the community (as in 1 Tim 5:1).

OET (OET-RV) It’s the same with people’s good deeds—some are quite easy to see and others aren’t, but nothing will be hidden in the end.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
