Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed as a tool for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

These two phrases describe the same group of people two different ways. Alternate translation: “the leaders of Israel who are also the heads of their ancestors families”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy

(Occurrence 0) the heads of their ancestor’s families

(Some words not found in UHB: and,made_offerings leaders_of Yisrael heads_of house_of ancestral_of,their they leaders_of the,tribes they the,supervised on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the,enrolled )

Here the leaders of the families are referred to as “heads.” Alternate translation: “the leaders of their ancestor’s families”

Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / abstractnouns

(Occurrence 0) had overseen the counting of the men

(Some words not found in UHB: and,made_offerings leaders_of Yisrael heads_of house_of ancestral_of,their they leaders_of the,tribes they the,supervised on/upon/above/on_account_of//he/it_went_in the,enrolled )

If your language does not use an abstract noun for the idea behind the word counting, you can express the same idea with a verbal form. Alternate translation: “had helped Aaron and Moses to count the men”
