Note: This view shows ‘verses’ which are not natural language units and hence sometimes only part of a sentence will be visible. Normally the OET discourages the reading of individual ‘verses’, but this view is only designed for doing comparisons of different translations. Click on any Bible version abbreviation down the left-hand side to see the verse in more of its context. The OET segments on this page are still very early looks into the unfinished texts of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check these texts in advance before using in public.

6. God’s plan for Israel (9:1–11:36) * Paul’s sorrow for Israel’s unbelief (9:1–5) * God chooses whom he wants to choose (9:6–13) * God shows mercy to whom he wants to show mercy (9:14–18) * No one can question God’s choice (9:19–33) * Israel’s false righteousness (10:1–4) * Salvation is available to everyone (10:5–21)Some translations set prose quotations from the Old Testament farther to the right on the page than the rest of the text. The ULT does this with the quoted words in 10:8.Some translations set each line of poetry farther to the right than the rest of the text to make it easier to read. The ULT does this with 10:18–20 of this chapter, which are words from the Old Testament.
Paul uses many rhetorical questions in this chapter. He does this to convince his readers that God does not save only the Jewish people, so Christians must be ready to go and share the gospel with the whole world. (See: figs-rquestion and save)
In 10:1–4, the pronouns “they,” “them,” and “their” always refer to the people of Israel. However, those pronouns refer to various things and people in 10:5–21, which will be addressed in the notes. (See: writing-pronouns)
