OET (OET-RV) He will come into the beautiful land of Yisrael, killing many, but Edom, Moab, and the bulk of the Ammonites will escape from his power.
In this long final vision, Daniel was told of events leading up to the end of the age.
This paragraph describes the final battles and end of the despicable king of the north.
He will also invade the Beautiful Land,
He will even enter the Land of Beauty.
He will also invade the Glorious Land.
He will also invade the Beautiful Land: This clause indicates that the king of the North and his army would enter the land of Israel. See 11:16c, where the same phrase is used to describe the land of Israel. Translate it the same way here. For example:
Then he will enter the beautiful land. (NET)
He will also invade the Glorious Land.
He will lead his army into the Land of Beauty/Splendor.
and many countries will fall.
Many thousands of people will fall victim to his attack,
There will be tens of thousands of casualties/deaths.
and many countries will fall: The BSB has supplied the word countries. The Hebrew just says “many will fall/stumble.” It is also possible to supply the word “people”: “many people will fall.” However, there is a textual problem here.
The Hebrew text should read “tens of thousands will fall.” For example:
and tens of thousands will be defeated (GW) (RSV/NRSV, ESV, REB, GW, GNT, CEV)
The MT is correct, which reads “many will fall.” For example:
and many nations will fall (NLT) (BSB, KJV, NIV, NASB, NET, NCV, NABRE)
It is recommended that you follow option (1), the reading recommended by HOTTP. There is only a small vowel change from the MT and it is the reading of some ancient versions.
But these will be delivered from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the leaders of the Ammonites.
but Edom, Moab and the leaders of Ammon will escape from the king’s power.
However the countries of Edom and Moab will survive, and so will the leaders of the people of Ammon.
But these will be delivered from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the leaders of the Ammonites: The verb will be delivered is passive in the BSB. There are two ways to translate this clause:
using a passive verb. For example:
But Edom, Moab and the leaders of Ammon will be saved from him (NCV)
using an active verb. For example:
but these will escape: Edom, Moab, and the Ammonite leadership (NET)
Translate this in the way that is most natural in your language.
בְּאֶ֣רֶץ הַצְּבִ֔י
in=land of_(the),beauty
This refers to the land of Israel. See how you translated this in [Daniel 8:9](../08/09.md) and [Daniel 11:16](../11/16.md).
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
יִכָּשֵׁ֑לוּ
fall
Here falling represents the action of dying. Alternate translation: “will die”
Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / metonymy
וְאֵ֨לֶּה֙ יִמָּלְט֣וּ מִיָּד֔וֹ
and=these escape from,hand_of,his
Here hand represents power. Alternate translation: “But these will escape from his power” or “But he will not be able to destroy these nations”
11:41 the glorious land of Israel: Israel (cp. 8:9; 11:16) is again the center of attack by an evil king.
• Moab, Edom, and Ammon were nations surrounding ancient Israel and Judah.

OET (OET-RV) He will come into the beautiful land of Yisrael, killing many, but Edom, Moab, and the bulk of the Ammonites will escape from his power.
Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
