OET (OET-RV) While I was speaking and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Yisrael, and presenting my requests to my god Yahweh on behalf of his holy mountain,
The vision recorded in this chapter occurred during the first year of the reign of Darius (538 B.C.). Thirteen years had therefore passed since Daniel received the vision described in chapter 8. Daniel was now more than eighty years old.
Daniel had read in the book of Jeremiah that God’s people would remain in exile and serve the king of Babylon for seventy years (Jeremiah 25:11). During that time the city of Jerusalem would remain in ruins. However, God had promised to bring his people back to the land of Judah after the seventy years were over (Jeremiah 29:10). Now Daniel realized that the seventy-year period was almost at an end. He prayed for his people and for Jerusalem. In response, God sent the angel Gabriel to reveal what would happen in the future.
While I was speaking, praying,
¶ In this way I prayed to Yahweh.
¶ So I prayed to Yahweh.
While I was speaking, praying: The verbs speaking and praying refer to one and the same action. So in some languages it may be natural to use just one verb. For example;
While I continued praying,
confessing my sin and that of my people Israel,
I confessed my sin and the sin of the people, the people of Israel.
I admitted that I had sinned and that my people, the Israelites, had sinned.
confessing my sin and that of my people Israel: This verse part begins to describe what Daniel was praying about. That is, it begins to describe the content of his prayer. In some languages it may be natural to begin a new sentence here and use a verb in the past tense:
I confessed my sin and the sin of my people Israel
and presenting my petition before the LORD my God concerning His holy mountain—
I asked Yahweh my God to be kind to his holy hill.
I asked/prayed that Yahweh my God would help Jerusalem his holy hill.
and presenting my petition before the LORD my God concerning His holy mountain: This verse part continues to describe the content of Daniel’s prayer. It may again be natural to translate this as a separate sentence or clause with a finite verb:
I made my request to the LORD my God for his holy hill
I humbly placed my request about my God’s holy mountain in front of the Lord my God. (GW)
concerning His holy mountain: The Hebrew phrase that the BSB translates as His holy mountain is a reference to Mount Zion, which formed part of the city of Jerusalem. See how you translated this in 9:16b.
עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל
my_people_of,my Yisrael
Alternate translation: “the people of Israel to whom I belong”
9:20-27 God’s immediate answer to Daniel’s prayer was to send his messenger Gabriel to explain Daniel’s vision. Gabriel’s explanation covered the near and distant future of Daniel’s people.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
