OET (OET-LV) And_still I was_speaking in_prayer and_the_man Gaⱱrīʼēl whom I_had_seen in_vision at_beginning wearied with_weariness was_approaching to_me about_the_time_of the_offering_of the_evening.
OET (OET-RV) while I was still speaking in prayer, God’s man Gavri’el who I had seen in the earlier vision, came speedily flying to me at the time of the evening sacrifice.
The vision recorded in this chapter occurred during the first year of the reign of Darius (538 B.C.). Thirteen years had therefore passed since Daniel received the vision described in chapter 8. Daniel was now more than eighty years old.
Daniel had read in the book of Jeremiah that God’s people would remain in exile and serve the king of Babylon for seventy years (Jeremiah 25:11). During that time the city of Jerusalem would remain in ruins. However, God had promised to bring his people back to the land of Judah after the seventy years were over (Jeremiah 29:10). Now Daniel realized that the seventy-year period was almost at an end. He prayed for his people and for Jerusalem. In response, God sent the angel Gabriel to reveal what would happen in the future.

Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight
Gabriel, whom I had seen in my previous vision, appeared. He flew swiftly toward me
Gabriel flew quickly toward me. He was the one/being like a man whom I had seen earlier in another vision.
Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me: The Hebrew text describes the angel Gabriel as a man because he appeared to Daniel as a man. In some languages it may be natural to make this clear. For example:
Gabriel came to me appearing like a man, as he had in the earlier vision
in swift flight: There are two ways to interpret the Hebrew phrase that the BSB translates as in swift flight:
it means “flying in flight,” that is, the angel came swiftly through the air to Daniel. For example:
suddenly came flying in (CEV) (BSB, NIV, KJV, RSV/NRSV, ESV, REB, NJB, GNT, NLT, CEV, NCV)
it means “wearied in weariness,” that is, very tired. Either Daniel or the angel was very tired. For example:
in my state of extreme weariness (NET) (NET, GW, NASB) It is recommended that you follow interpretation (1), along with the majority of scholars and English versions. Following this interpretation does not mean that Gabriel necessarily had wings, as Daniel described him as looking like a man.

It was the time of the evening when the priests offer the/a sacrifice to God.
about the time of the evening sacrifice: Every day the priests in the temple offered two sacrifices. The second sacrifice of the day was offered in the late afternoon, just before sunset. Use the expression that is natural for describing this time of the day. For example:
about the time of the sacrifice that they offer as the sun is getting low in the sky
In some languages it may be natural to translate this as a separate sentence. For example:
It was the time for the evening sacrifice to be offered. (GNT)

This is the same angel Gabriel who appeared in the form of a man in [Daniel 8:16](../08/16.md). Alternate translation: “Gabriel, who appeared as a man”

This may refer to the first vision that Daniel had while he was awake. Alternate translation: “in the previous vision” or “in the vision I saw before” or “in a vision before”
מֻעָ֣ף בִּיעָ֔ף נֹגֵ֣עַ אֵלַ֔י

Alternate translation: “flew down to me quickly”
כְּעֵ֖ת מִנְחַת־עָֽרֶב

The Jewish people sacrificed to God each evening just before the sun went down.

• evening sacrifice: Before the destruction of the Temple, Israel had offered two sacrificial lambs daily, one in the morning and one in the evening (Exod 29:41). Daniel apparently observed these times daily with prayer (Dan 6:10, 13; cp. Ps 55:17).
