MSG(1-9)After the death of Moses the servant of God, God spoke to Joshua, Moses’ assistant:
“Moses my servant is dead. Get going. Cross this Jordan River, you and all the people. Cross to the country I’m giving to the People of Israel. I’m giving you every square inch of the land you set your foot on—just as I promised Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon east to the Great River, the Euphrates River—all the Hittite country—and then west to the Great Sea. It’s all yours. All your life, no one will be able to hold out against you. In the same way I was with Moses, I’ll be with you. I won’t give up on you; I won’t leave you. Strength! Courage! You are going to lead this people to inherit the land that I promised to give their ancestors. Give it everything you have, heart and soul. Make sure you carry out The Revelation that Moses commanded you, every bit of it. Don’t get off track, either left or right, so as to make sure you get to where you’re going. And don’t for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get where you’re going; then you’ll succeed. Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.”

TSNTyndale Study Notes:

1:9 As the Israelites entered Canaan, they would fight the worshipers of the Canaanite gods, but they were afraid these gods would grant the Canaanites victory in battle. In reassuring Joshua, God used his personal name the Lord (Hebrew Yahweh; see study note on Exod 3:15) to remind Joshua that the Lord was more powerful than any false gods the Canaanites might invoke.
• your God is with you: God’s continuous presence made it possible for Joshua to heed God’s instruction.

UTNuW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

הֲל֤וֹא צִוִּיתִ֨יךָ֙

am=not (Some words not found in UHB: am=not I_commanded=you(ms) strong and,courageous not frightened and,not dismayed that/for/because/then/when with,you YHWH God,your in/on/at/with,every which/who go )

Yahweh is using the question form for emphasis. If a speaker of your language would not use the question form for that purpose, you could translate this as a statement or as an exclamation. Alternate translation: “ “Surely I have commanded you!”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

חֲזַ֣ק וֶאֱמָ֔ץ

strong and,courageous

See how you translated these same phrases in 1:6. Alternate translation: “Be very courageous”

Note 3 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

אַֽל־ תַּעֲרֹ֖ץ וְאַל־ תֵּחָ֑ת כִּ֤י עִמְּךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר תֵּלֵֽךְ

not frightened and,not dismayed that/for/because/then/when with,you YHWH God,your in/on/at/with,every which/who go

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: “Since Yahweh your God is with you in every place where you go, do not be terrified and do not be dismayed”

Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / parallelism

אַֽל־תַּעֲרֹ֖ץ וְאַל־תֵּחָ֑ת

not (Some words not found in UHB: am=not I_commanded=you(ms) strong and,courageous not frightened and,not dismayed that/for/because/then/when with,you YHWH God,your in/on/at/with,every which/who go )

The phrases Do not be terrified and do not be dismayed mean similar things. Yahweh combines them to emphasize that Joshua must not be afraid. If it would be clearer for your readers, you could express the emphasis with a single phrase. Alternate translation: “Make sure that you are not terrified” or “There is absolutely no reason for you to be terrified”

Note 5 topic: figures-of-speech / 123person

עִמְּךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ

with,you YHWH God,your

Here Yahweh speaks about himself in the third person. If it would be helpful in your language, you could translate this with the first person. Alternate translation: “I, Yahweh your God, am with you”
