OET (OET-LV)but I_was_wanting to_be_being_present with you_all now, and to_change the voice of_me, because I_am_perplexing in you_all.

OET (OET-RV)I wanted to be there with you now, and to speak quite differently than this, because I’m puzzled about you.

uW Translation Notes:

δὲ

(Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἤθελον δέ παρεῖναι πρός ὑμᾶς ἄρτι καί ἀλλάξαι τήν φωνήν μού ὅτι ἀποροῦμαι ἐν ὑμῖν)

Alternate translation: [and]

Note 1 topic: grammar-connect-logic-result

ἤθελον & παρεῖναι πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἄρτι, καὶ ἀλλάξαι τὴν φωνήν μου, ὅτι ἀποροῦμαι ἐν ὑμῖν

˱I˲_˓was˒_wanting & ˓to_be˒_being_present (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἤθελον δέ παρεῖναι πρός ὑμᾶς ἄρτι καί ἀλλάξαι τήν φωνήν μού ὅτι ἀποροῦμαι ἐν ὑμῖν)

If it would be more natural in your language, you could reverse the order of these phrases, since the second phrase gives the reason for the result that the first phrase describes. Alternate translation: [because I am perplexed about you, I am desiring to be present with you now and to change my tone]

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / explicit

ἀλλάξαι τὴν φωνήν μου

˓to˒_change (Some words not found in SR-GNT: ἤθελον δέ παρεῖναι πρός ὑμᾶς ἄρτι καί ἀλλάξαι τήν φωνήν μού ὅτι ἀποροῦμαι ἐν ὑμῖν)

The phrase change my tone refers to Paul changing the manner of his communication towards the Galatians from sternly rebuking to being more affectionate. Paul loved the Galatian believers. However, because of the serious nature of the false teaching which the Galatians were being tempted to accept, combined with Paul’s physical distance from the Galatians, he felt that he needed to write to them and firmly and sternly correct their false thinking with the hope that they would not believe or follow false teaching. If it would be helpful to your readers, you could indicate explicitly what the phrase change my tone means here. Alternate translation: [to speak in a different manner]

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

4:20 Had Paul been personally present, he would have been able to “read” his hearers and thus shape his appeal to their exact spiritual and emotional condition. From afar, he wasn’t sure if the tone he was using would be effective.

OET (OET-LV)but I_was_wanting to_be_being_present with you_all now, and to_change the voice of_me, because I_am_perplexing in you_all.

OET (OET-RV)I wanted to be there with you now, and to speak quite differently than this, because I’m puzzled about you.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
