Although the author uses the term a man here, the next verse explains that this being was “the leader of the army of Yahweh.” The being, referred to here as a man, was not a human but was either an angel of Yahweh sent to represent Yahweh, or Yahweh himself. The author uses the phrase “a man” because this what Joshua thought he was before he was told the beings identity in the next verse. Since the identity of the being is given in the next verse, you do not need to explain the meaning of the phrase a man here.
