OET (OET-LV) Send to/for_yourself(m) men so_that_they_may_spy_out DOM the_land_of Kənaˊan/(Canaan) which I am_about_to_give to_the_people_of Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) a_man one a_man one for_the_tribe_of his_ancestors_of_his you(pl)_will_send every_one a_leader among_them.
OET (OET-RV) “Send some men in to explore Kanaan—the land that I’m giving to the Israelis. Send one man from each ancestral tribe—a leader within that tribe.”
Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / yousingular
שְׁלַח־לְךָ֣ & תִּשְׁלָ֔חוּ
send to/for=yourself(m) & send
The first instance of you (in Send for you) is singular and refers only to Moses. The second instance of you (in you shall send) is plural and refers to Moses and the Israelites. Use the appropriate singular or plural form of “you” in your language if your language marks that distinction.
Note 2 topic: translate-tense
אֲנִ֥י נֹתֵ֖ן
I giving
Yahweh is using the present tense am giving to describe something that is going to happen in the future in order to show that the event will happen soon. If it would be clearer in your language, you could use the future tense. Alternate translation: [I am about to give]
Note 3 topic: figures-of-speech / idiom
אִ֣ישׁ אֶחָד֩ אִ֨ישׁ אֶחָ֜ד לְמַטֵּ֤ה אֲבֹתָיו֙
(a)_man one(ms) (a)_man one(ms) for,the_tribe_of his_ancestors_of,his
The phrase one man, one man to the tribe of is a common expression of this culture that means “one man for each tribe.” If this phrase does not have that meaning in your language, you could use a comparable expression from your language that does have that meaning, or you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [One man for each tribe of]
Note 4 topic: figures-of-speech / metaphor
אֲבֹתָיו֙
his_ancestors_of,his
God is using the term fathers to mean “ancestors.” If it would be helpful in your language, you could state the meaning plainly. Alternate translation: [his ancestors]
Note 5 topic: writing-pronouns
בָהֶֽם
among,them
The pronoun them refers to the people in the man’s tribe. It may be helpful to clarify this for your readers. Alternate translation: [among the people of his tribe]

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Hebrew or Greek words that they’re translated from.
